About Kasturi
A consulting practice built around patience and precision.
We work with small business owners who want to think carefully before they act — and who want someone alongside them who takes their business as seriously as they do.

How Kasturi came to be
Kasturi started because the founders kept meeting small business owners who were not short of ideas — they were short of structure. Owners who had been running on instinct for years and felt the ground shifting under them. Owners who had tried to write a plan alone and ended up with a document that looked like a business plan but did not function like one.
The name Kasturi — after the musk plant found across Southeast Asia — carries a sense of something subtle but lasting. That is the kind of work we try to do. Not loud or fast, but thorough and useful over time.
We are based in Kuala Lumpur and work primarily with Malaysian small business owners across a wide range of sectors. Most of our clients run businesses with fewer than fifty people. Some are just starting out; others have been operating for a decade and need fresh structure.
Every engagement begins with a real conversation — not a form or a checklist. We want to understand your situation before we offer any direction. That takes more time at the start, but it produces far better plans.

How we work
Our professional standards
These are the commitments we hold ourselves to in every engagement, regardless of size or scope.
Listen before advising
We do not arrive with a standard template. Every engagement starts with understanding — your context, your constraints, and your goals.
Written outputs only
Verbal advice fades. Everything we develop is committed to writing, so you have a reference point and can share it with others who need to understand the plan.
Strict confidentiality
Client information — financial, operational, personal — stays within the engagement. We do not share details between clients or with third parties.
Honest assessment
We point out the weaknesses in a plan, not just its strengths. An honest assessment early saves considerable difficulty later.
Plans that stay current
For ongoing engagements, we revisit and update. A plan written in one set of circumstances should be revised when those circumstances change.
Clear terms before starting
Scope, deliverables, and fees are agreed before any work begins. No ambiguity, no surprises part-way through.
Our approach to small business consulting
What patient advisory work looks like in practice
Small business consulting in Malaysia covers a wide range of services, from one-off advice sessions to long-term strategic partnerships. Kasturi occupies a specific space within that range — structured, methodical work that produces written plans owners can use beyond the session itself.
Many owners come to us after trying to plan alone and finding it difficult to hold the full picture in their head. Others come after receiving general advice that did not translate into anything concrete. Our work is designed to close both of those gaps: we bring structure to your thinking, and we commit the results to paper in a form that is actually useful.
We keep our engagements focused. Three clear service types, each with a defined scope, process, and output. This makes it easier for owners to choose what is appropriate for their stage and budget, and it helps us deliver consistent work rather than sprawling advisory relationships that drift over time.
Across all three services, what remains constant is our commitment to listening carefully, being direct when we see problems, and producing work that reflects your actual situation rather than a generalised view of what a small business should look like.

A short initial conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It helps us understand whether we are the right fit — and helps you understand how we work.
